Looking ahead: the future of inquiry-based education and the National curriculum

The revised English National Curriculum has turned the 'How science works' aspect of Science into 'Working scientifically' and explains that scientific processes should be taught always in relation to 'substantive science content'. What are the implications of the introduced changes for Inquiry-based science education? Both challenges and opportunities arise and it is up to the teachers to decide how to ensure that the pupils develop an interest in science whilst the level of their learning meets the Curriculum requirements.

Curing ‘Plant blindness’ using an inquiry-based approach

Can IBSE be used to combat “plant blindness”? – a phenomena whereby plants are overlooked in our environment and considered “boring”. A recent study developed a Fighting Plant Learning Unit in order to test the use of IBSE to inform and inspire students on the topic of plant defence mechanisms.
