Ready, Steady Go
INQUIRE courses in eleven countries are beginning with Partners in Norway and Spain being the first to lead the way. In Norway, 15 local teachers participated in the first one-day module at the Botanic Garden of the Natural History of Oslo, while in Spain a national INQUIRE course was over subscribed with 200 teachers competing for just 36 places. Spain’s course for primary and secondary teachers was run over five days in collaboration with the Spanish government. Both courses encouraged teachers to examine the theory of IBSE and try out a range of activities they could use in their classrooms.
Other Partners are due to begin their courses in the coming weeks. During the 2nd Partners meeting in Bremen, Germany, final preparations were discussed. Out of this meeting, it was evident that a community of practice is emerging with Partners becoming more accustomed to reflecting on their own and each others’ work. Time was also spent looking at a range of evaluation techniques such as diary keeping, mind mapping and interviewing. Partners may use these techniques to evaluate their own work and that of their teachers.
The next Partners’ meeting is planned for February 2012 in Spain.
