The year 2011 will go down in history as a record breaker in terms of the average annual temperature in Brussels - the warmest year since 1833, when the Belgian Royal Meteorological Institute began systematic observations. The annual average temperature reached 11.6 °C, which is 1.1 °C above the average for the period 1981 - 2010 (ie the "normal" temperature). It is also 0.1 °C above the previous record set in 2007, and 0.2 ° C above the average temperature for 2006. It is also worth noting that the ten warmest years since measurements began have all occurred since 1988. Link to the article of the Belgian RMI (in Dutch)
