2011 - the hottest year since 1833

The year 2011 will go down in history as a record breaker in terms of the average annual temperature in Brussels - the warmest year since 1833, when the Belgian Royal Meteorological Institute began systematic observations. The annual average temperature reached 11.6 °C, which is 1.1 °C above the average for the period 1981 - 2010 (ie the "normal" temperature). It is also 0.1 °C above the previous record set in 2007, and 0.2 ° C above the average temperature for 2006.
